VicReturn is a notforprofit organisation formed to be the Scheme Coordinator of the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (Scheme) under a contract with the State of Victoria. The Scheme operates on a partnership model, where VicReturn coordintates the Scheme, handling financial operations, marketing and community education and maintaining scheme integrity. VicReturn's partners, the network operators Visy, ReturnIt, and TOMRA Cleanaway, oversee the return points, refunds to customers and ensure proper recycling of the containers. Recycling Victoria regulates the Scheme to ensure efficient operation. VicReturn is responsible for the the Scheme's financial performance and operations, managing the scheme s IT systems, undertaking audits to ensure a highquality public experience, managing the risk of fraud, promoting the Scheme, and educating the community on the benefits of participating. VicReturn seeks to make Victoria a leader in beverage container recycling, reducing the amount of beverage containers in litter and landfill, whilst adding value to our local communities, businesses and the environment. In 202324, the Scheme helped save just over 1 billion containers from landfill.
