We provided financial assistance and moral support through visitation to asylum seeker families living in the community. This includes paying for essential goods such as groceries, personal care items, clothes, bills, doctors fees, rent and household items. Many receive no government assistance. Often their circumstances are dire. Our lunch group cooked and provided monthly lunches to asylum seekers who attend the Asylum Seekers Centre (ASC). We deliver free organic vegetables grown in our community garden to the Jarjum College, a school dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth who are not coping in mainstream education. We continued our Journey Scholarship Prize in partnership with schools that support refugee and Aboriginal youth.
