We are often the first point of call for vulnerable community members, providing information, support and emergency relief in a nonthreatening environment where people feel comfortable to go in a crisis. We work at the grassroots level and are run by volunteers and workers from the local community bringing people together to make our community a better place. Using a community development model we serve as a vital community resource providing a range of programs and services relating to the physical, social and health needs of local people in lowersocioeconomic areas; including addressing the prevalence of mental health issues in the local community. The Community FoodShed provides free fruit, veg and bread for everyone, with frozen meals and shared meal options along with emergency relief food and personal supplies. Our service is a drop in service including providing training and healthy development for individuals and families; small amounts of financial help for immediate needs such as medication, transport/fuel to reach appointments and food for children; drop in after school activities and homework help for local school children. We provide a budgeting and literacy support service and provide an agency for the No Interest Loan Scheme (NiLS). We also provide opportunities for work placement students and volunteers furthering their skills ready for employment as well as Work for the Dole schemes.
