The Tristan Yan Cardiothoracic Surgery Foundation established in 2022, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing cardiovascular health in Australia and around the world through highyield initiatives. Our mission is to improve clinical outcomes for patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic surgery by employing a comprehensive approach that encompasses worldleading research, immersive education/training, and direct advocacy for positive changes in cardiovascular care delivery. Our Purpose At the Foundation, we are committed to improving the quality of cardiovascular care through: WorldLeading Research: We support and conduct groundbreaking studies that drive innovation in cardiac surgery and patient care, pushing the boundaries of medical science. Immersive Education/Training: We provide exceptional training and educational opportunities for surgeons and healthcare professionals, enhancing their skills and knowledge to deliver the highest standard of care. Policy Advocacy: We advocate for changes in healthcare policy to ensure that cardiovascular care in Australia meets the highest standards of quality and accessibility, benefiting patients across the nation. Project 1 Pioneering Excellence in Cardiothoracic Surgery Research: Annals of Cardiothoracic Surgery (ACS) ACS is a distinguished international bimonthly peerreviewed journal dedicated to advancing the field of cardiothoracic surgery. ACS has published 73 journal articles in 2024. Project 2 Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery The Human Cadaver Master Class (II) The Foundation has introduced advanced cadaveric models to teach intricate procedural skills to training surgeons in 2024, offering a realistic, handson learning experience without compromising patient safety. Enhanced Learning Opportunities: Surgeons can practice and refine their techniques in a controlled, riskfree environment, ensuring mastery of skills before operating on live patients. Innovative Training Methods: We incorporate the latest advancements in surgical education, ensuring that participants are wellprepared for the shift towards minimally invasive and robotic techniques in cardiothoracic surgery. Project 3 Supporting NSW's Biggest Public Teaching Hospital: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Cardiovascular Service Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of death in Australia, and the Foundation is at the forefront of a campaign to promote cardiovascular health care in NSW. We support the RPA hospital Cardiovascular Service as a leading clinical and academic centre of excellence for heart health in the region. The foundation donated advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgical instruments to RPA public hospital to support its surgical program. Building a Vision: The Foundation garners the support of Australia's leading philanthropists and is currently engaging with NSW Health and key stakeholders to turn this vision into a reality.
