In 2024, Theatre Works continued to deliver on its mission to support independent artists, develop new Australian work, and provide accessible opportunities for audiences to engage with contemporary theatre and performance. Through its coproducing and presenting model, Theatre Works delivered a significant annual program of productions, developments, creative residencies, public programs, and artist support initiatives across the Theatre Works precinct, including the Main Theatre, Explosives Factory and TWiSK rehearsal space. The organisation supported hundreds of independent artists through paid employment, presentation opportunities, mentorship, technical and producing support, and access to affordable creative infrastructure. Theatre Works prioritised the development and presentation of original Australian stories, diverse artistic voices, and independent creative practice. The organisation also expanded audience engagement through accessible ticket pricing, education initiatives, regional touring partnerships, artist talks, workshops, and community events. During the year, Theatre Works completed major redevelopment works to improve accessibility, rehearsal facilities, artist amenities, and longterm sustainability of the venue. These improvements strengthen the organisation s capacity to support artists and audiences into the future. Despite ongoing financial pressures impacting the broader arts sector, Theatre Works maintained strong audience attendance, high levels of artistic activity, and continued investment in independent artists and cultural outcomes for Victoria.
