About The Trustee For Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers Trust

In her will, Australian composer Peggy GlanvilleHicks provided for her home in Paddington to be used as a Composers' House, with the hope that the residency in the Trust house will create a haven and peace of mind which will enable the composer in residence to further his or her creative work. Through a Corporate Trustee, the Peggy GlanvilleHicks Composers' Trust manages the House which was restored after her death in 1990, and opened on 11 October 1993. It is maintained by a balance of public and private funds, assisted by the royalties of GlanvilleHicks' works. Since 1993, 32 composers, performers and artists have benefited from residencies provided in the House and in other locations, creating a legacy of Australian music, ideas and creativity that has had immeasurable impact on Australian cultural life. With funding from various bodies, the Corporate Trustee, where possible, also establishes annual composer residencies in Western Australia in houses provided by the statebased National Trust entity. Akin to the residencies in the Paddington House, these WA residencies also provide avenues for artists and performers to create and develop works, which likewise benefit Australian cultural life.
