we answered emails from people who got bitten by ticks and were ill. There are no TBD knowledgeable Drs in Australia anymore so people are desperate for help. KMF listens to their grievances and try to refer them to relevant healthcare practitioners. We are in the process of building an app which enable all people in Australia if bitten to record the place they have been bitten, their acute symptoms if any and any delayed symptoms, and the ability follow up the patients if they upload their lab results to prove to authorities that Australian ticks can make people sick. They do carry infectious agents and people should be beware of them. Because of the negativity towards TBDS in Australia we did not get applicants from research facilities to investigate tick borne diseases in Australia. We did grant a Veterinary PhD student from Uni .of Sydney $20K to collect ticks from Northern beaches of Sydney and test them for any infectious agents. We are hoping she gets some results that show Aust tick can be vectors of infectious agents.
