About The Trustee for Andrew C.C. Farran Foundation
The Andrew C C Farran Foundation was formed to alleviate need and disadvantage and to promote achievement in situations and circumstances where in Australia and abroad it can make a difference. These range from providing relief where it can from the adverse affects of conflict and climate, global and local, to the advancement of health, education and wellbeing in both the public and private spheres, where practical opportunities present. Since its inception the Foundation has given particular attention to supporting such universal organisations as UNICEF, UNHCR, Save the Children, and the World Food Program; and closer to home the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Australian Red Cross and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Research Centre. In the educational sphere it has made substantial grants to the Marcus Oldham Agricultural College near Geelong, the Geelong Grammar School, and Trinity College in the University Melbourne. We support also think tanks such as The Australia Institute and the Centre for Policy Development. Recipients at the local community level include Lifeline and The Smith Family. Of historical interest is the support given to the Harrow Discovery Centre which is in effect a celebration of the Aboriginal cricket team that toured England in 1868. This was the first ever representative Australian cricket team to play abroad. They won the majority of their matches, several on England s top cricket grounds. The captain and leading player was Johnny Mullagh after whom the medal presented to the player of the match at the annual MCG Boxing Day Test is named. The Foundation stands ready to receive eligible tax exempt donations from the general public in support of its work additional to its own resources. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors, including a principal person director, and researches potential beneficiaries prior to making grants. These are early days for the Foundation which to date had gifted or committed over $5 million. The needs are ever widening and increasing.
