The mission of The School Food Project (SFP) is to transform school food provision in Australia. Our role is to educate and advocate for a change in school food culture nationally, moving toward fresh, wholesome food that is supportive of every child s health and wellbeing. The School Food Project facilitates schools to offer children nutrient dense, appetising morning tea and lunch prepared onsite by confident, trained staff, using fresh and mostly locallysourced ingredients. Community education is integrated into our work, to support families and children to connect with the new menus, to inspire and build confidence in trying new foods. The School Food Project advocates for policy change to align with the one in two children globally who are offered a governmentsupported lunch; similarly Australian children are poised now benefit from a nutritious and delicious school food provision from their school canteen or school kitchen. The School Food Project offers two programs to do this: 1. The SFP Canteen Transformation DIY: a comprehensive, selfpaced and adaptable toolkit in 8 Stages, with the option for additional inperson onsite training. Developed from the pilot school transformation of 6 primary schools, the resources are practical and empower school canteens to cook up fresh food successfully. 2. The School Lunch Program: In this innovative and equitable program, the school chef and kitchen staff prepare nutritious, fresh food menus for every child every day. This program was launched in February 2024 at Berrima PS NSW and is expanding into more schools, following evaluation publication in 2025 conducted by SFP s academic partners at Flinders University SA
