The Society continued to advance geography and people s understanding of its contributions to the challenges facing our planet through a variety of projects, including: launching a Geography Writing Competition as a way to promote geography and encourage engagement with the Society establishing of a Scientific Studies Research Grant open to Honours or higher degree Geography students enrolled at an Australian university and whose research focuses on an aspect of Queensland s geography pertaining to the natural or built environment collaborating with multiple organisations, including Spring Hill Community Project, Royal Historical Society of Queensland a vibrant programme of activities that included regular presentations inperson and via Zoom, a series of interactive public forums, and day and multiday trips within Australia and overseas our work with geographical education, including the Australian Geography Competition which over 50,000 secondary students entered in 2024, taking Australia s team to the International Geography Olympiad, and presenting awards to high achieving university students continuing work on a webbased catalogue of our nationally significant collections (books, journals, maps and images) to be publicly searchable via eHive and now via Trove as well conservation of books and maps via funding from Community Heritage Grants
