Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO) is the leading orchestral training organisation in New South Wales. SYO provides a structured pathway for young musicians aged 5 to 25 to develop, explore, and share their passion for orchestral music. In 2024, 650 of the state s most talented young musicians were accepted into SYO s program, which comprises 15 orchestras. In addition, SYO engages hundreds more through openaccess programs including Summer and Winter Schools in Sydney, as well as Youth Orchestral Camp and Regional Workshops across New South Wales. SYO is committed to supporting a continuous musical journey from beginner to preprofessional by offering formative educational, artistic, personal, and communitybuilding experiences. These experiences are designed to foster both artistic excellence and longterm participation in music. SYO empowers young people with the artistic and developmental tools to thrive as creative individuals. The achievements, engagement, and contributions of its musicians during and beyond their time at SYO form the basis by which the organisation measures its success. At SYO, we believe that our young musicians are our greatest investment. Participation instils dedication, resilience, teamwork, and confidence qualities that extend far beyond the rehearsal room and into the broader communities from which our musicians come. While technical development is a key outcome, the essence of SYO lies in the act of playing together. This collective experience is fundamental to nurturing creativity, empathy, and a more connected and cohesive society.
