About Surf Life Saving Sydney Inc.
Sydney Branch continues to promote and ensure that Surf Life Saving (SLS) and other Emergency Services provided by members from the 15 SLS Clubs, meet agreed service standards and are undertaken by qualified and proficient volunteers. Deploy assets across patrolled beaches and the coastline from North Bondi south to Burning Palms in the Royal National Park, with the aim of preserving life in the aquatic environment. Deploy equipment and crews throughout NSW to provide assistance during floods, bushfires and other natural disasters where aquatic rescues are needed. Develop and provide structured training courses, diverse development activities along with competency assessments. Develop skilled lifesavers and leaders, while fostering club and community collaboration and connection. Invest in technology and implement strategies that help achieve our purpose, to prevent drownings and injury along the Sydney coastline. Arrange and promote surf sports that challenge member capabilities, build resilience and are inclusive and encourage diversity. For the first time in 75 years of operation, Sydney Branch s management team was led by a female President. Membership increased to 19,221 in response to activities aimed at reengaging our youth, reengineering and expanding Youth and Junior Development programs. Advanced training modules such as Beach Management, Emergency Response, Youth Leadership and Surf Sports Development were conducted. It was a busy year with expanded lifesaving activity, extended hours of operation, leveraging new technology at carnivals and a continuation of activities for members young and old. The 20232024 season saw an upsurge in beach visitation and aquatic activity along the Sydney coastline. By the close of the season some 1,165 rescues had been performed, over 3,160 First Aid and 42,510 preventative actions. Sydney won the NSW Interbranch Championship for the second consecutive year. Branch clubs continued to perform well at State and National Titles in Junior, Senior and Masters events. Members from all Clubs along with their Inflatable Rescue Craft and other equipment were on call to assisted with NSW Flood and Bush Fire Emergencies which were minimal this year. A number of members were recognized in the 2024 Australian Honours. Having responsibility for one of Australia s busiest coastlines both on the water and beach presents a lot of challenges. Sydney Branch will continue to seek innovative solutions, embrace new opportunities and work tirelessly toward creating a brighter future for our members. Going forward member clubs will have expanded capabilities and the agility to respond to changing aquatic emergency incidents and in doing so reduce drowning and other injuries.
