A promise of a better life and an education are the main reasons why children are trafficked, enticed or willingly sent away from poor rural families in Nepal to orphanages or other similar institutions, into child labour or early marriage. Poverty and a lack of education are the main root cause for the children and families' vulnerability. SCAI's education scholarship, income generation and child protection activities have empowered children and their families through enabling the children to access education while staying with their families and helping improve their economic situation. SCAI has also provided full time care for children rescued from illegal or abusive orphanages or other situations of abuse and neglect, while working to trace immediate or extended family, where they can be safely reintegrated back into under our ongoing monitoring and support.
