Step Out supports people with disabilities in the Big Rivers Region to live full, selfdetermined lives. Step Out s primary objective is supporting and assisting people living with a disability is achieved through: Delivery of services and programs that focus on lifeskill development, dignity of choice, community participation and connectedness Promoting independence, selfdetermination and opportunities to support people to reach their full potential through its personcentred support work Walking alongside and supporting people with disabilities within the Katherine Region Providing information, advocacy, and support Contributing and driving systemic change through information provision, developing strategic alliances, working collaboratively and being truly responsive Step Out support workers strive towards the independence of service users by assisting in tasks, as opposed to completing the tasks for them. Step Out delivers community access, group and individual programs, as well as two SIL Houses and a Respite house. All of these services encompass a life skills component that focuses on service user s empowerment and independence. Objectives Step Out s Objective of assisting people with disabilities is achieved through: Delivering programs that focus on lifeskill development Promoting independence, choicemaking, normalisation and selfworth through its personcentered support work Representing and helping people with disabilities within Katherine and surrounding Northern Territory communities Providing information, advocacy and support to people with disabilities Referring service users and providers to other support agencies within and outside of the Northern Territory Publishing useful information and communications; and developing strategic alliances with other organisations with the purpose of ensuring all people with disabilities benefit from the rights set out in the Disability Services Act and the National Disability Standards
