About St John's Schoolhouse Museum

The St John's Schoolhouse Museum is Canberra's first school and schoolmaster's residence. The Schoolhouse and residence opened to the public as a museum in 1969 and continues to open regularly for two hours every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. The Schoolhouse also opens by appointment at other times for school and group tours, and during the ACT Heritage Festival. The Museum is operated by a Board of Management and volunteers who provide information to the general public and visiting school groups on early education in Canberra and family history. The Schoolhouse also serves as a venue for morning tea following the 8.00am Sunday Church Service.
