Snowy Valley's Heroes Inc

This year we have worked closely with the Tumut High School teachers and students to create awareness of the importance of Remembrance for all Veterans. Meeting with students and providing the keynote address at the annual ANZAC Day service at the High School. We have students from Stars & Clontarf foundation providing help during our Book Launch. We have raised funds for Veterans Healthcare and donated proceeds to the National Centre for Veterans Healthcare. We are now working closely with 21 Aboriginal Land Councils in the Wiradjuri Nation in the development of 'Our Indigenous HeroesThey Also Served national project. Our Heroes Tales articles in our newsprint media have increased to two full pages per month and these are distributed to libraries across the region. Monthly we undertake a radio chat session and talk about Veterans and commemorative events and working with our Indigenous councils. We have completed many guest speaking events across our region and have encouraged members from these groups to share our commitment to veterans by handknitting poppies for our book launch. The results have been nearly 4000 poppies have been knitted and are now stitched onto netting ready for display in front of the memorial for our local Victoria Cross recipient. This year has seen the research of our first book come to fruition which will be launched on 9/11/2024. The book contains information of 3,361 men and women who have served for our country from the Snowy Mountains region. All in all the team have surpassed all expectations this year and are looking forward to an exciting new year as we progress further with our Major project for our Indigenous Heroes.
