About Small Steps 4 Hannah Limited

The Small Steps 4 Hannah Foundation works to HALT domestic and family violence by teaching Australians to recognise the signs of coercive control and how to respond to them. For schoolaged audiences, the Foundation delivers the HALT education program named for Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey, whose lives were taken in an act of violence that shocked Australia. For adults, the Hannah s Story program contains material targeted to mature participants. Both programs have been funded through the generosity of donors to the Small Steps 4 Hannah Foundation. Hannah s parents, Lloyd and Sue Clarke, established the Foundation to help Australians recognise and understand the red flags of coercive control, and to campaign for vital law reform. As a result of the Foundation s advocacy, the Queensland and New South Wales Governments have both introduced standalone laws against coercive control, while the discussion is ongoing in a number of other states. Working with other charities and benefactors, the Foundation has also helped to open Hannah s Sanctuary a residential complex in suburban Brisbane where families will be able to escape violence and coercive control and begin the process of rebuilding their lives. Importantly, Small Steps 4 Hannah actively avoids duplicating services that are already available, by providing funding to organisations that already provide support services for families in danger due to coercive control and violence. Operating as a funding provider rather than a service provider has allowed the Foundation to minimise overheads and allocate a very high proportion of its income to service provision. By promoting a greater understanding of coercive control, how to recognise it and how to respond, and by funding services that directly support people in need, the Small Steps 4 Hannah Foundation is delivering on its mission to HALT domestic and family violence.
