About Sherman Centre for Culture & Ideas

The Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas (SCCI), is a pioneering notforprofit organisation, which follows Founder and Executive Director Dr Gene Sherman s 30+ years of Asiafocused exhibition making via the commercial Sherman Galleries (19862007) and the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF, 20082017). Launched in April 2018, the mission of SCCI is to provide a vibrant platform for challenging ideas on fashion and architecture within the broader context of culture. Fashion, in particular, has lacked serious attention as a sophisticated mode of creative expression. SCCI seeks to elevate fashion alongside other artforms, beginning a long overdue conversation, and to explore architecture s multifaceted intersections with cultural, social, aesthetic and economic life. Since launching in 2018, SCCI has produced live knowledge sharing events in NSW in the form of lectures, symposia, panel discussions, tours, masterclasses and others, to audiences of all ages from dedicated children's programming, tertiary student programming and programming for the culturallyengaged general public. SCCI maintains a comprehensive website on which patrons can access archived material including videos of past programs as well as numerous podcasts produced by SCCI. SCCI continues with its programs aimed at continuing disclosure on fashion, architecture and culture.
