SCIF s purpose is to promote health, education and welfare, particularly for the benefit of children. In order to pursue this purpose, SCIF will encourage and facilitate programs or social enterprises that further this purpose. In particular, SCIF, in its role as trustee, will direct the investment of the funds of the unit trust into programs or social enterprises that seek to positively impact on health, education and welfare, particularly for the benefit of children. In considering which social enterprises to invest in, SCIF will require evidence of strong and positive impact for disadvantaged children, families and communities and will focus on programs aimed at addressing situations where there is not easy or equitable access to health, welfare or education. Many of these social enterprises could not operate or expand without the availability of these funds. Consequently, by ensuring that there is a greater pool of funding for these social enterprises, SCIF intends to increase the reach and effectiveness of social enterprises that improve health, education or access to welfare, and in doing so, provide a significant benefit to the public. SCIF, in its role as trustee, will therefore open up funding opportunities for charities and forprofit social enterprises in order to ensure that programs that address a particular need are sustainable and successful in their outcomes. In this way, SCIF is seeking to find new and alternative ways to support health, education and welfare programs in order to address needs that are otherwise not being met.
