About Rotary Australia Benevolent Society

Rotary Australia Benevolent Society has provided direct relief to individuals suffering poverty, sickness, distress, misfortune, disability, destitution or helplessness as arouses compassion in the community. Below are some examples: Central Coast Charity Hub A community collaboration supporting 'Bikers Hand' to provide essential items free, to highly disadvantaged families and vulnerable members of our community. Tiny Homes Western Australia Funding to support older foster care children to transition into the community by supporting their independent living needs. Out of Home Care (OOHC) is the name given to care arrangements for children outside of their own family home primarily foster care, group homes and transitional high needs care. Children and young people who enter this care system have often experienced high levels of harm and trauma. At age 18, the young people are required to transition out of OOHC, at a time when they lack substantial support and are at increased risk of homelessness, substance use, unplanned pregnancy and contact with the criminal justice system compared to other young people. They also require support to stay engaged in education and employment, to connect with family and community, and to transition to independent living. YACC Pathways young Drive Program, Beaudesert, Qld. This project will provide a driver mentoring program for disadvantaged young people in the Beaudesert region (Qld) in association with YACC (Youth and Community Centre) by providing lessons with a qualified driving instructor as well as mentoring from qualified local people wo they can reach the required number of hours experience to do their driving test. The region is a semirural region with very limited public transport and has many single parent and indigenous families. The outcome of this project will provide those identified young people an opportunity to drive and seek available employment. Street Doctor Service at Stirling Homeless people have the worst health. Their average life expectancy is 20 years less than the Australian average. This project is to set up a 'Street Doctor' service for homeless people in Stirling for one weekly clinic for a year. Black Swan Health has been delivering the Street Doctor service for homeless people for 20 years. Currently operating 14 clinics per week south of the river, each clinic is held for a 3 hour period. They maintain a regular schedule so the attendees know when and where to attend. Attendees use word of mouth as the main marketing system. Many repeat clients use this as their regular medical service. If this service was not available, these clients would simply neglect their health, or attend a hospital emergency department, clogging up an already overburdened service. This Street Doctor Service is considered more efficient and user friendly. The GP services are bulk billed and receive Medicare funding.
