About Pride Cup Ltd
LGBTIQ+ identifying people (being those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and/or otherwise as gender and/or sexuality diverse) who face distress caused by discrimination, harassment, and bullying received, particularly those involved in sport. LGBTIQ+ identifying people disproportionately suffer from distress by virtue of them being LGBTIQ+ identifying. Specifically in sport, LGBTQI+ identifying people face unique structural discrimination and barriers. Recent research indicates that only 6% of LGBTQI+ identifying people are involved in a team sport, and 80% of Australians have experienced or witnessed LGBTQI+ discrimination in sport. These findings highlight that homophobia and transphobia remain a significant issue in sporting environments. Pride Cup undertakes the following projects and activities to reduce minority stress and structural discrimination suffered by LGBTQI+ people: 1. Pridethemed sporting events to activate community awareness & raise visibility; this includes running marquee events and Pride Cups (which are rainbow themed matches). 2. Education programs delivered to players, coaches & the broader community to tackle LGBTQI+ based discrimination, build empathy & promote acceptance; 3. Capacitybuilding to empower communities (through sporting clubs) to run their own events & lead initiatives supporting LGBTQI+ inclusion; 4. Partnership development to scale our growth & amplify impact through collaboration; and 5. Positive storytelling designed to increase the visibility of LGBTQI+ people, allyship and LGBTQI+ inclusion.
