Parkinson s Australia is the national advocacy body for people living with Parkinson s, their families and carers, researchers and health professionals. Parkinson's Australia commissioned research providing the most accurate and up to date information on incidence and prevalence of Parkinson's in Australia; supported the application for medications and treatments to be included on the PBS; and made submissions regarding changes to the Aged Care Act and Support at Home program. We gathered the most written submissions regarding changes to the lists of approved NDIS supports and supported a call to ban Paraquat to the APVMA. Parkinson's Australia was successful in obtaining a grant for a GP and Allied Health Professional education project funded by the Federal Department of Health and Aged Care; and a project with the Australian Digital Health Agency to raise awareness about digital health in Australia both projects to be implemented during 202425. As the leading voice on Parkinson's in Australia, we regularly seek our community's input via polls and surveys, and publish regular enews. We host an open monthly virtual roundtable meeting where anyone can speak directly to the Parkinson's Australia CEO about their thoughts, suggestions and concerns. Parkinson's Australia maintains alliances and memberships with other organisations such as Neurological Alliance of Australia , Australian Patient Advocacy Alliance, Go Gentle, Palliative Care Australia, Accessible Product Design Alliance, Assistive Technologies for All, Australian Federation of Disability Organisations, Consumer Health Forum of Australia, Medicines Australia, Patient Voice Initiative, Global Alliance to end Parkinson's disease, Genomics Coalition, and sits on the NDIA's Neurodegenerative Palliative Care and Rare Diseases Advisory Group. Parkinson's Australia's ongoing projects include organising and funding The Parkinson's Australia National Conference, held every 4 years; and managing the YOPX (Young Onset Parkinson's eXchange) app and website an Information, Linkages and Capacity building project, funded by the Federal Department of Social Services.
