Our Plan C Incorporated

Plan C is a notforprofit charity with a mission to build the resilience and regenerative capacities of Australian communities in the face of future disasters and crises. In 2023/2024, it was involved in 4 different projects including: the establishment of a network of volunteer Community Carers and Responders (CCR) in the Mary River catchment area of QLD. This project builds on and expands on our existing CCR program implemented in the Northern Rivers of NSW. CCRs are community members who undergo an intensive and traumainformed fiveday free training, encompassing selfcare, disaster resilience, community building, emergency communications as well as food, water, and energy security, first aid and psychological first aid. Upon graduation, participants are mentored to implement a project that builds their own community s resilience. CCRs are then invited to additional workshops and community events to deepen their knowledge and foster interpersonal connections. The CCR model, in which local councils and emergency services are flexibly integrated to ensure a wholeofcommunity approach, is transposable to other parts of Australia, urban or rural. the implementation of our NextGen Navigators project, a youth disaster resilience building innovative initiative, piloted in partnership with the Mullumbimby and Evans Head high schools. the organisation of 12 community events across the Northern Rivers of NSW and online, under the Rising Together project name. These events focused on building participants' skills in food security and in conflict management. A 2 day workshop on Dadirri, Indigenous deep listening, was also implemented in partnership with We Alli Aboriginal corporation. a study of mutual aid practices in the Greater Uki area of Northern Rivers NSW, where we sought to understand what brought residents together, and keeps them together, in the face of adversity, and how these spontaneous movements relate to local authorities and emergency services. The findings of our study will be published in 2025.
