About Organisation of African Communities of Western Australia Incorporated

The Organisation of African Communities in WA Inc. (OACWA) exists to unify, advocate for, and empower African communities across Western Australia. Our core mission is to promote social inclusion, community wellbeing, leadership development, and cultural preservation among African Australians. Over the years, OACWA has delivered impactful programs and events aligned with our main aims: Empowerment and Capacity Building: Through initiatives like the African Australian Youth Empowerment Program (AAYEP) and the Mentor Me ReConnect project, we ve equipped young people and parents with life skills, leadership training, and access to opportunities that foster independence and resilience. Community Voice and Advocacy: OACWA serves as a bridge between the African community and government, advocating for justice reinvestment, inclusive policymaking, and systemic change to address issues such as racial profiling, family safety, and socioeconomic barriers. Cultural Promotion and Social Inclusion: Our signature events such as Africa Day celebrations and multicultural forums promote cultural pride, intergenerational unity, and meaningful crosscultural engagement across WA. Health and Wellbeing: We respond to the unique needs of our community through mental health programs, support for victims of crime and domestic violence, and information sessions on public health, disability, and aged care services. Strategic Vision and Sustainability: OACWA is actively working toward establishing a permanent African Community Centre a culturally responsive space that will house programs for youth development, temporary accommodation for vulnerable individuals, women s support, and social enterprise incubation. Through inclusive, grassrootsdriven strategies, OACWA continues to fulfill its mission to uplift, connect, and advocate for African Australians building a stronger, more inclusive Western Australia.
