About National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters’ Council Incorporated

The NEMBC's mission is to advocate for and strengthen the voice of multicultural communities through community broadcasting. Everything we do, from grassroots broadcaster support to national advocacy advances this goal by empowering diverse communities to tell their own stories, in their own languages. Over the past year, the NEMBC has helped achieve its mission in several key ways: Empowering Community Broadcasters: Through training programs, policy support, and tailored resources, the NEMBC equips ethnic and multicultural broadcasters with the skills and tools to produce highquality radio content. This helps individuals from CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds gain confidence, media literacy, and a platform to share their heritage and lived experiences. Strengthening Cultural Identity and Connection: By supporting language programs on air, the NEMBC promotes cultural retention and intergenerational learning. Broadcasts in language are not just a communication tool, they're a powerful way for communities to maintain identity, celebrate heritage, and stay connected across generations. Fostering Inclusion and Representation: The NEMBC ensures that multicultural voices are not marginalised in the media landscape. It advocates at national levels for fair funding, policy recognition, and equitable access to broadcasting resources for multicultural and ethnic communities. Creating Pathways and Partnerships: The NEMBC builds bridges between grassroots broadcasters and national initiatives. Whether it s translating public health messages into different languages or mentoring youth broadcasters, NEMBC helps communities become more informed, connected, and resilient. In short, the NEMBC s work directly advances its aims by providing the infrastructure, advocacy, and support needed for ethnic broadcasters to thrive, ensuring multicultural voices remain a vital part of Australia s media and cultural landscape.
