About Murinbata Tribal Development Corporation Limited
Murinbata Tribal Development Corporation Limited (referred to as MTD) was formed to achieve positive spiritual, social and community development outcomes at Wadeye and surrounding areas. MTD achieves this by empowering Aboriginal people to participate fully in MTD business processes and in broader local decisionmaking processes in the community. Such involvement contributes toward empowering local Aboriginal people to better their social, educational, economic, political, and psychological condition. At a practical level, MTD operates responsible and successful business initiatives that not only provide better retail services in Wadeye, but also enable support for community and social initiatives. These initiatives include encouraging and supporting local employment, advancement of good health practices and social wellbeing, supportive welfare support initiatives and relief for individuals and families, provision of travel access to those in need, better access to education and training, as well as better access to sports, arts, and recreational activities. MTD supports ongoing traditional and cultural activities and provides support for local traditional landowning clan groups. Donations and sponsorships are often provided for worthwhile initiatives that are supported by the MTD Board. This year MTD supported the annual Yidiyi Festival and AFL carnival, boxing clinics, Men's and Women's ceremonies (Wadeye and Palumpa), multiple funerals and community air fares to and from other remote communities, loaned vehicles to the Wadeye clinic following extensive vandalism of NTG fleet and continued to support the Kardu Diminin Corporation and the Traditional Owners in their efforts to implement Town Leasing and develop a Town Plan. MTD also facilited over 20 community barbeques, often during times of community unrest. During these challenging times MTD also provided food security through food and store voucher donations, and negotiated with local residents to mediate and provide access to the store for all community members.
