KYDS provides free, accessible and ongoing counselling support to young people (10 19 years of age). The KYDS Model is based on the 8 Principles outlined in The National Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy. We work with young people presenting with a range of psychological distress, including young people who are experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety, suicidal ideation, those who are engaging in selfharming behaviours and/or have been exposed to trauma. We empower young people to identify their therapeutic goals and support them to gain insight into the challenges they face and help them to build skills that will improve functioning over time. In addition, KYDS provides support to parents/carers and families of young people to build on their knowledge and understanding of their child's needs, while ensuring families feel better equipped to support their young person. KYDS also works alongside schools and other professionals involved in a young person's network of support to develop robust plans that will ensure a coordinated response to achieving the best outcomes for each young person we work alongside.
