About Indigenous Basketball Australia Limited
Our charity s work in 202324 focused on empowering and assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly youth, by using basketball as a tool for positive change. Here s how we achieved our goals: 1. Empowering Youth and Celebrating Culture: Programs such as the Indigenous Community Basketball Leagues (ICBL) and the National Indigenous Basketball Tournament (NIBT) have given young people a sense of pride in their culture and identity while also helping them develop their skills and confidence. 2. Breaking Down Barriers: By offering free programs like the NSW Basketball Clinics and the AOC Coaches Camp, we ensured that children in remote communities had access to opportunities for growth, learning, and play, regardless of their financial situation. 3. Building Leadership and Life Skills: Camps, such as the DJ Sackman Clinics, helped participants develop teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills, preparing them for future success both on and off the court. 4. Promoting Health and WellBeing: Our programs encouraged active lifestyles, fostered resilience, and supported mental health by creating safe and supportive environments for youth to thrive. 5. Strengthening Communities: Events like the NIBT Cultural Festival brought people together to celebrate Indigenous heritage, promote reconciliation, and create stronger connections within and beyond Indigenous communities. Through these efforts, we have improved the lives of participants, promoted cultural pride, and strengthened communities, making a meaningful impact across Australia.
