Some of our key goals are to provide social services and educational services geared primarily for the Shia Muslim community, and also for the benefit of the wider community. We achieve these main outcomes through engaging our community by running courses, lectures, social functions and other activities that provide a friendly, healthy social environment. We also engage in mixed faith gatherings and intercommunity activities to strengthen our ties with the broader community and develop quality relationships, integration, mutual understanding, respect and acceptance. This may involve getting together people from different ethnicities and beliefs in harmonious discussions around religion and belief systems. To assist community members with their personal and religious development we provide religious support and spiritual guidance again through community activities and through discussions in small groups or one on one sessions. Whilst our volunteers may not hold formal qualifications in counselling, years of experience in working with the community gives them strong insight into community and personal needs within the context of our centre and services. Where possible and appropriate we work with other centres to assist community members with their needs. Lastly, by observing occasions in the Shia Muslim calendar we ensure that the community remains connected to important religious history, events and teachings
