The Honk Music Festival, is free and is carried out in the streets of Wollongong, in the middle of summer when the city is ordinarily very quiet. It brings vibrancy and life to the city. It brings people from other places to our city. We encourage and use the local food outlets and venues. The music and parades are participatory. It brings together people from diverse cultures. We encourage other community groups to join the parading. It brings togother different art forms (music, performance, dance, circus, visual). Families benefit through the Kids Honk! programme ( children workshop pieces of music and perform) and thought lantern making workshops and parade. Youth are empowered to create and perform. The shared nature of the music combats isolation and loneliness.
