HPI s objectives are to advance culture by promoting the arts and performing arts and assisting in the promotion in the promotion, provision, maintenance and operation of cultural facilities, including in relation, but not limited to: supporting the historic Haven Amphitheatre, Castlecrag to continue its legacy of theatre performance for current and future generations, and promoting and assisting with the funding of the replacement of the Haven Amphitheatre Stage. As we discussed in our 2023 AIS, due to the elected Mayor of Willoughby City having advised that Council has no intention to rebuild a stage at the Haven in the near future and that Council encourages the use of the space in its current landscape option, HPI explored various options and opportunities to record the colourful and varied performance history of the Castlecrag Haven Amphitheatre in the course of pursuing its objectives of advancing culture particularly in relation to the legacy of the Haven Amphitheatre. To date little has been written about the events staged at this unique outdoor performance space, those involved and the Haven s importance to the social fabric of the community. In particular, the period following the building of the first stage remains largely undocumented. HPI believes it is important to preserve this cultural history and to archive related material before details are lost from the community s collective memory. HPI has been working for the past year with an author who is recording this history, the first draft of which is progressing well.
