HalfCut s work has directly contributed to our mission of preserving and restoring the Daintree Rainforest while supporting the cultural heritage and wellbeing of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Bama people. We achieved this through key initiatives: Support Land Buyback and Restoration: Donations enabled us to acquire and restore key parcels of rainforest land, protecting biodiversity and regenerating ecosystems. Support Indigenous Training and Employment: We collaborated with Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation (JYAC) to provide training and employment opportunities for the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Bama people. This included roles in rewilding, tree planting, cultural site management, and sustainable land use practices. Development for Affordable Housing and Community Support: By partnering with JYAC, we initiated projects to support housing for Traditional Owners, enabling families to live on their ancestral land and reconnect with their cultural heritage. Community Engagement and Education: Through the HalfCut campaign and yearround social media outreach, we raised awareness about the importance of rainforest conservation, securing both financial and volunteer support. Scientific Research and Partnerships: Collaborating with universities and environmental experts, we focused on studies and programs that protect the rainforest and ensure its longterm resilience against climate change and other threats. The results of these efforts include: Conservation and restoration of rainforest land to support biodiversity and carbon sequestration. Tangible benefits for the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Bama community, including jobs and pathways to reconnect with culture and country. Greater public awareness and engagement, as reflected in increased campaign participation and donations. These activities align with HalfCut s mission to protect the Daintree Rainforest and support its Traditional Owners, demonstrating our commitment to environmental and cultural sustainability.
