About Geographe Marine Research LTD
Research: We continued our Bay Blues research program involving satellite tagging, eDNA sampling and acoustic monitoring of blue whales. We managed an acoustic data logger recording the underwater soundscape off Cape Naturaliste. We monitored humpback whales, pygmy blue whales and southern Right whales via onshore observation and drone photography. The 2024 on water activities built on the success of the 2023 program and we successfully tagged 4 blue whales in Geographe Bay. We attended the April 2024 pilot whale stranding in Quindalup and collected photographs of the stranding which we made available to DBCA for their research. Education: We gave interviews on radio and TV regarding marine issues in the bay (including the pilot whale stranding), and we circulate a regular newsletter. We make information about these issues available on our website.
