About Gender and Disaster Australia Limited
Gender and Disaster Australia's (GADAus') principal activity and purpose is to promote the prevention or control of human behaviour that is harmful or abusive to human beings. This includes gendered violence, physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, suicide, selfharm and substance abuse, before, during, and after emergency and disaster situations. Throughout 20232024, GADAus continued to develop education materials and resources, and deliver nationwide 'Lessons in Disaster' and 'Train the Trainer' training to community members, emergency management, relief and recovery workers, health, community, and family violence organisations, and others involved in disaster preparation, response and recovery. Drawing from its research findings, GADAus raised awareness about genderbased violence, discrimination, male suicide and risktaking behaviours at times of disaster through: training delivery to over 500 participants from 223 organisations; presentations at conferences and events; the publication of journal articles and media pieces; and the development of new resources.
