The Financial Counselling Foundation is a charitable trust that works to advance financial counselling services. The Foundation provides funding for direct financial counselling casework or to build the capacity of the sector. The purpose of the Foundation is to increase access to financial counselling by providing much needed additional funding for the sector. In 202324 grants were awarded to seven agencies in NSW, NT, Qld, SA, Vic & WA to employ a financial counsellor for three years to deliver financial counselling to people within the prison system. Redfern Legal Centre received a grant to provide financial counselling to clients of their financial abuse service and four agencies received grants to provide financial counselling to those struggling to pay rent in the private rental market. An evaluation of the prison grants will be undertaken by ArtD Consultancy and a number of existing grants were extended. These included Mob Strong Debt Help, the national First Nations phone financial counselling service, the three existing grants to tenancy agencies in Victoria, Queensland and NSW, Bush Money Mob financial counselling in remote First Nations communities in the Pilbara and Kimberley and bridging grants for financial counseling trainees in WA.
