About Eyes4Everest Incorporated
We set up an Eye Clinic at the Khunde Hospital in collaboration with the Himalayan Trust Nepal. The clinic provides eyecare for the mountain communities in the Solukhumbu region. We provide the salary of the ophthalmic technician stationed at the clinic, spectacle frames and other expenses that the clinic may incur. We also bring a team of Australian volunteer optometrists and Nepalese optometrists to remote mountain communities. They perform eye care examinations that involve eyesight, binocular vision, refraction, and ocular health. Every volunteer has an app that guides them through a process of testing. This data is then sent securely to a cloud database. When we detect a refractive or binocular vision problem, spectacles are prescribed for the patient via the App. The app's data allow our optical dispenser in Kathmandu to prepare the glasses. We also carry topical medication and ocular lubricant. If we detect an anterior eye condition like dry eye. We provide instructions on how to use them and make notes on the App When an ocular pathology such as cataract is detected, the condition is explained and a referral letter to visiting eye surgeons is prepared. We also look at ways to train Nepalese optometrists in return for service with our volunteers to these remote communities.
