How DCCQ s Work Helps Achieve Its Mission and Main Aims The Deaf Cultural Council Queensland (DCCQ) actively works to preserve, promote, and strengthen Deaf culture, identity, and community across the state. Its mission is grounded in fostering a thriving, connected, and empowered Deaf community that is proud of its language, culture, and heritage. To achieve this, DCCQ organises and supports a range of community events and initiatives that bring Deaf people together. Notable examples include the Deaf Festival, a flagship event that celebrates Deaf culture and provides a space for Deaf community members, families, and young people to gather, connect, and express their identity. These events create opportunities for: Cultural celebration and visibility promoting Auslan, Deaf culture, and the contributions of Deaf people in Queensland. Social connection and community belonging reducing isolation and building strong relationships across generations within the Deaf community. Youth engagement and empowerment offering opportunities for Deaf youth to lead, participate, and be inspired by Deaf role models. Family inclusion and support enabling hearing families of Deaf children to connect with the Deaf community, improving understanding and fostering inclusive relationships.
