Darwin Symphony Orchestra Incorporated

In 2024, DSO reached more than 11,000 audience members across 17 distinctive performances, including 5 free concerts. The season included mainstage concerts at the Darwin Entertainment Centre, sitespecific outdoor experiences at the Botanic Gardens, and communitydriven educational engagements in regional centres like Katherine and Palmerston. A major milestone was the commissioning and premiere of Gurrulwa Guligi (Big Wind) by Larrakia Elder Aunty Bilawara Lee and Composer in Residence Netanela Mizrahi, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy. This work was a powerful collaboration between First Nations artists and local composers, and has since toured the NT. DSO strengthened education and outreach across the NT, delivering 55 workshops and performances, including in Darwin, Palmerston, Nhulunbuy, Yirrkala and Katherine. A new partnership with City of Palmerston saw the full orchestra perform Family Proms, with expansion planned for 2025. Commercial collaborations also grew, including a soldout performance with Electric Fields. DSO continued key partnerships with Tracks Dance Company, Darwin Festival, Charles Darwin University, and more. DSO s Young Artists Program (YAP) provided emerging musicians with professional development through performances, mentorship, and creative leadership opportunities across various events, including Symphony of Stuff and GeekFest's Power Up Parade. DSO s federal funding doubled in 2024, securing an additional $1 million over four years. This has laid the foundation for sustainable growth, secure employment for musicians, and expanded regional engagement from 2025 onward.
