About Cooloola Coastcare Association Inc.
As a grassroots organisation, our Mission is to protect and restore Cooloola Coast s species, habitats and ecosystems. Through our work: We monitored and managed turtles and turtle hatchlings during the 2324 and 2425 turtle laying seasons. We rescued and transported numerous sick and injured turtles to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. We located, documented and protected many stands of the endangered Phaius australis, Lesser Swamporchid. We monitored over twenty WaterWatch sites, testing for water quality across the Cooloola Region. Our bush regen teams worked with the Gympie Regional Council and National Parks to remove weeds and work on revegetation projects. New this year, Cooloola Coastcare took on the role of auspicing the Australian National Register of Big Trees after its founder passed away and the Register was handed over to a young arborist who wants to turn the Register into a nonprofit organisation. The register seeks to find and document the largest specimens of as many species of trees as possible. Through our annual BioBlitz we continue to monitor and document the species diversity in the Cooloola Region. Our event has found numerous species unknown to science, including 114 unknown species of spider.
