Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives Limited's work aims to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and influence generational change through: national nursing and midwifery leadership; building a culturally safe workforce; advocacy; and partnerships and support across the multiple sectors. This work takes many forms, from: promotion of career/pathway opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities; indigenous leadership and mentoring; capacity for graduate and student members; building culturally safe leadership in the health workforce at all levels; partnerships with key stakeholders, institutions and Indigenous organisations; building and nurturing relationships with educational providers advocating and influencing education reform across nursing and midwifery health courses; advocacy role on behalf of members and indigenous peoples on a rights based approach to health and wellbeing; and our representation and advocacy role at the national level on policy and influencing change to improve the health system and interprofessional collaboration.
