About Conflict Islands Conservation Initiative Trust
The 20232024 programs. Turtle Conservation: 1820 endangered green turtles tagged, 209 critically endangered hawksbill turtles tagged, 65,000 hatchlings released on average annually, 524 successful nests this season. In total, 446 nests were relocated, with 43,905 eggs producing 39,365 hatchlings. Success rates for both species were 91.5% for hatchling success and 91% for emergence success. We saw a eduction in harvest/taking of eggs and turtles from 45 in 2017 to just 5 this season. Manta Ray Conservation saw 97 mantas identified, 59 new manta sightings, 14 re sightings. Coral conservation program saw 3 coral nurseries constructed, 55 cement coral cookies created, 15 coral stars built for additional reef stabilization, 527 super coral fragments transplanted and growing, 25 fragments on single soral star, 23 Acropora, 7 Montipora & 2 Procilipora super coral parents identified. A total of 477 kilograms of marine debris, comprising 8,360 pieces removed from 15 islands.
