About Community Housing (Cairns) Limited
CHCL aims to advance social and public welfare by: a) constructing, managing and operating dwellings for social and affordable housing; b) seeking funding from government and private sources to help deliver housing projects; and c) developing relationships between the community housing sector and the private sector to assist in delivering more social and affordable housing to the Queensland community. CHCL's initial program is to redevelop and operate up to 500 dwellings in Woree, positioned between Cairns southern corridor and innercity suburbs as part of the Queensland Housing Investment Growth Initiative. CHCL will deliver the project in partnership with community housing agencies, private sector and government, who will provide construction and funding assistance to CHCL. The Consortium s proposed project is an opportunity for CHCL and the Queensland Government to respond to demand and changing supply requirements at scale, in an area which has a specific need for social and affordable housing. Newly constructed dwellings will be allocated to people over the age of 55, as well as those living with disability who can benefit from universal design, independent living support and an inclusive environment.
