About Community Arts Network Western Australia Ltd
Working at the forefront of Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) since 1985, CAN is an arts producer that partners with communities to share West Australian stories, histories and experiences that have been hidden, ignored or unrecognised. By amplifying these stories so that they reach the broader Australian community, our work breaks through the silence that arises from systematic disempowerment. We create positive social change, building inclusion and understanding between people. Created in collaboration with artists skilled in community practice, CAN s work is grounded in a fundamental commitment to social justice and the transformative power of art. Responding to the wisdom of communities, CAN courageously engages in complex community environments, working with multiple stakeholders and respectfully navigating intercultural dialogue and relationships. Fusing myriad art forms and technologies, each community s story is told powerfully to their intended audiences. CAN s rigour in community processes and creative outcomes results in quality artworks that put the voices of participants at the centre of Australian life.
