The Capricorn Pest Management Group (CPMG) exists to protect the natural, agricultural, and social values of the Capricorn region by reducing the impact of invasive plants and animals. Our mission is to build community capacity, strengthen regional biosecurity, and foster collaboration across landholders, industry, and government. During the past year, our work has directly supported these aims in the following ways: Strengthening biosecurity and land productivity: We delivered targeted weed and pest management programs that reduced the spread of invasive species, helping landholders maintain productive, resilient landscapes. This directly supports our aim of protecting agriculture and natural resources. Building community awareness and education: Through workshops, field days, and the development of resources such as the Priority Weeds of the Capricorn Region booklets, we empowered landholders, schools, and community groups with practical knowledge and tools. This aligns with our mission to increase communityled biosecurity action. Collaborating with partners: We worked closely with local governments, state agencies, and industry bodies to coordinate strategies, share knowledge, and deliver costeffective programs. This partnership approach reflects our aim of building strong, regionwide networks for pest management. Protecting biodiversity and catchments: Our initiatives reduced pressures on native habitats, waterways, and ecosystems, supporting longterm environmental health. This demonstrates our commitment to balancing productive land use with environmental protection. Supporting resilience and sustainability: By reducing control costs, protecting soil health, and improving land condition, our work contributed to the social and economic resilience of the Capricorn region.
