Canberra Muslim Youth (CMY)

Principal activities of the society during the financial year ended 30 June 2024 were that the Society represented the Muslim community and promoted the general understanding of Islam by undertaking religious and social activities. This included the five daily prayers, the Friday congregational prayers, Eid and other supererogatory prayers. In addition to prayers, the Society also organised events for the youth including, Islamic lecture, sports and camping events, fundraising, feeding, and sending food baskets to the needy. In addition, we organised Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha celebrations for the community in Canberra. Our community also assisted other Islamic societies in Canberra, such as CIC, ISACT & CMC in delivering various community programs. The society suffered a major loss in terms of donations due to the increase of regular commodities prices and utility bills after pandemic. We also spent a large amount of our resources to provide support to the community, especially the most vulnerable members of the community, during these unprecedented difficult times. We impacted religious knowledge for members to gain a better understanding of social relations between members of the Muslim Community via gaining a better understanding of the religion of Islam. We have done this by creating opportunities for the community to engage with each other in social and learning activities. This was achieved through the promotion of mutual respect, forbearance, tolerance of others, being able to unite even in disagreement, this was still the theme for 2024. Hence, we have furthered the development and ability to adapt of the community in 2024. We have succeeded in providing assistance in building of educational infrastructure by creating more space for these activities to occur. These goals have been realised and there still more to come, by the Will of Allah.
