About Bob Brown Foundation Inc
We run campaigns for the protection of the natural environment. From the forests to the oceans, our feisty foundation has taken action to defend wild places and wildlife. Our flagship campaign is to protect 495,000 ha of Takayna in the northwest of Tasmania as a World Heritagelisted National Park. We organise marches, rallies, vigils, and events that promote protection for the threatened forests of Takayna. Events include citizen science events such as Takayna Bioblitz and Summer of Swifites, our annual Takayna Trail ultramarathon, Art for Takayna Residency and exhibition, and nonviolent directaction training. We are also working to end native forest logging in Australia, protect the critically endangered Swift Parrot, and raise awareness about the decline of koala habitat and the need for better koala protection. Renewable energy projects should not cost the Earth or its wildlife. Our Sink Marinus Link campaign concentrated on exposing the shonky economics behind the projects and the adverse biodiversity impacts on threatened species. We took legal action to try and stop a massive wind farm on remote Robbins Island, home to the last diseasefree population of Tasmanian Devils and slap bang in the middle of one of Earth s most important migratory bird routes. Our Stop Toxic Salmon campaign aims to remove all fish farms from Tasmania s rivers, bays and oceans. Our foundation hosted one of the firstever onwater protests against industrial fish farming anywhere in the world. Toxic fish farms are pushing the Maugean Skate to the edge of extinction in Macquarie Harbour on the westcoast of Tasmania. Relentless pressure from our foundation, with direct actions, submissions, protests and publicity about the plight of the Maugean Skate, forced a formal reconsideration of policies around industrial fish farms in Macquarie Harbour. After our 202223 voyage to Antarctica to document the highly destructive krill fishery, we saw our Antarctic campaign continue to grow with the release of a groundbreaking report on krill. Armed with the report, we began a markets campaign around Woolworths the only major supermarket in Australia that sells both krill oil and salmon that is fed krill. Our AdaniWatch project uses investigative journalism to shine a light on the Adani Group's misdeeds across the planet. AdaniWatch has published over 300 stories describing the Adani Group's impacts on the environment, indigenous peoples, freedom of speech and corporate governance.
