ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES 1/ The Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area Inaugural Conference 2024: In collaboration with NSW NPWS and Blue Mountains City Council, we convened the firstever conference dedicated to the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, bringing together researchers, conservationists, and policymakers to share insights and foster collaborations. The event highlighted pressing conservation issues and launched a Research Prospectus to drive solutions to protect and enhance the area's natural and cultural values. 2/ Launch of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area Research Prospectus: We unveiled a comprehensive research prospectus, outlining priority areas for investigation and inviting collaborative efforts to address critical challenges. This strategic document aims to drive impactful, multidisciplinary research across the World Heritage Area. 3/ Upper Mountains Science Hub, Inspiring Australia Science of Conservation Online Event Series: Partnering with Inspiring Australia, we hosted a series of online events that explored the science underpinning conservation efforts. These interactive sessions educated the community about cuttingedge research and practical solutions for protecting the region's unique ecosystems. 4/ Saving the Regent Honeyeater Conservation Program Birdlife Research Project: We contributed to research and conservation strategies to protect the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater through a Birdlife Australia grant funded project. This program focuses on habitat and food sources mapping, monitoring, and community awareness to ensure the survival of this iconic species. 5/ Bucketty Bush Pea Identification and Seedbank Project In partnership with local botanists and conservationists, the Institute supported the identification and seedbanking of the Bucketty Bush Pea. This initiative aimed to preserve and enhance populations of the threatened species. 6/ Partnerships and Collaboration Program: Through strategic partnerships with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NSW NPWS), Blue Mountains City Council (BMCC), and other local nongovernment organisations, we strengthened conservation outcomes. Collaborative projects focused on building conservation practice to ensure coordinated approaches to protecting the World Heritage Area. These activities and initiatives are integral to our mission of conserving the natural and cultural heritage of the Blue Mountains and effective conservation of protected areas globally.
