About Barossa Wildlife Rescue Incorporated
Barossa Wildlife Rescue (BWR) continued to provide training and support to our network of wildlife carers and rescuers responding to wildlife in distress in the Barossa Valley region. We operated a 24/7 rescue hotline to respond to animals in distress and to provide advice and guidance to members of the public, the police, local vets and council regarding wildlife. During the 12month reporting period Barossa Wildlife Rescue conducted 842 rescues of injured and orphaned wildlife including various birds, kangaroos, possums, echidnas, koalas and reptiles. We also provided advice regarding wildlife welfare to 749 callers. Our licensed Large Wildlife Rescue Team assessed and humanely euthanised using a firearm 139 injured large animals. BWR achieved our longterm goal of establishing a sanctuary in the Barossa Valley to provide a permanent home for rescued joey kangaroos and other animals that cannot be returned to the wild. This project included revegetation of the sanctuary to increase biodiversity of the sanctuary site.
