About Banking on Women

Banking on Women (BoW) is a student organisation at The University of Melbourne dedicated to supporting young women with a passion and curiosity for pursuing a career in the financial and professional services industries. BoW strives to empower, educate and encourage our members by providing them with industryspecific knowledge and skills through our partnerships. Our success since 2012 would not have been possible without the ongoing support of our industry sponsors. BoW has provided many engaging educational and professional development events to our membership base of over 600 talented and enthusiastic students. We began Semester 1 of 2024 with our How to Succeed in Interviews Event. This event focused on providing our members valuable advice on how to best navigate their future careers, recruitment, and gain industry experience. We also held our flagship, Women in Business Evening, featuring an inspiring junior and senior panel of industry professionals who provided our members with insights and reflections on their career journeys and experiences in their respective industries as a woman. As BoW aims to promote a strong network of driven and likeminded individuals, these events were and continue to be an integral part of our mission to empower women and support them as they pursue careers in the financial and professional services industries. Semester 2 started with a new event: Introduction to Investment Management. This event focused on providing our members valuable insight on the realm of investment management, and its niche areas such as sustainable investing and ESG. Moreover, our intention to hold this event was to help students explore different career possibilities in the field of investment management and what they entail. Our Banking on Women Brunch was another highlight. The event provided our members the opportunity to sit down and have meaningful oneonone conversations with multiple women from a variety of industries. To wrap up the semester, we held our annual Alumni Networking Event (also soldout), where we celebrate BoW s continued commitment to empowering female students and connect them with our esteemed alumni. Throughout both semesters, our Bold with BoW Mentor Program paired highpotential students with a finalyear mentor and provided them with the opportunity to speak with a sponsor representative working in their career of interest. This program has proved to be a successful way to connect our membership base with sponsors in a more personal manner, which we are excited to continue in 2025. Along with these events, our podcast BoWTalks was highly successful with an additional 13 episodes recorded and released, obtaining a total of over 12,000 listens. A broad range of topics were covered, from Women in Leadership and the Gender Gap in Investment Management to hearing the stories of successful individuals working in Investment Banking, Consulting, Private Equity and many more!
