About Australian Children's Laureate Foundation
The Australian Children's Laureate Foundation is responsible for the Australian Children's Laureate Program. The Laureate is an outstanding author and member of the Australian Children's community who by example and through a rigorous touring program inspires children to develop and expand their interest and understanding of literature and of story. Every two years a new children's laureate is announced and act as a national ans international ambassador for reading. This work builds the foundation of culture in our society and inculcates a love of reading in young people. More broadly, children all across Australia who have access to the Laureate through school visits, festival attendances, regional touring programs, creative projects, social media and traditional media. A particular focus of the Laureate program has been working with children and families with low levels of literacy and children living in the remotest areas of Australia who would not readily have the chance to 'touch' literature up close and be inspired by Australia's most talented and engaging storytellers.
